There is a lot of misinformation because Korea wants the world to believe TKD is an ancient art. Tae kwon do is NOT based on taekkyon or other so called "ancient" arts from Korea and is infact based on karate and a little chuan fa.

it's 60 years old but is build around many much older fighting systems that was outlawd. and since they were outlawd they almost disepeard, but when they were legalized again, Korea started to take pide in them and reinvented them based on the old systems and that became tae kwon do.
