totally agree. Indian refers to being from the country of India or having heritage there. Don't mix things up like that.

Not all Natives think that way. I refer to myself and to other Natives as: Natives, American Indian, Indian, and indio.

Why dont they say what Indian tribe made the word Canada (big villiage)? was it ojibwa? cree? algonqujin...why dont they say what indian language is Canada?? as for anonymous comment about
aboriginal, i say call it what it is.. there is nothing wrong with the word INDIAN ... as a matter of face it should be called Canadian Indian ...and the Canadian Indians are a proud people..

Many Native Americans refer to themselves as "Indians." viz. The American Indian Movement. etc.

Also: Canada got its name from two guys in a bar deciding what to name their country. They liked the name of the USA and decided that their country should have a three letter initial as well. So one guy said "How about 'C', eh? 'N', eh? 'D' eh?... and that's how it got its name
