Are you sure?...Try cutting a banana stem and see what happens in a couple of days or more...I bet you would see a new set of leaves coming right out from the center of its previous stem. Anyways, banana is not a tree. It's not a fruit either, but it's an herb rather.

Over the years the seeds in bananas have been bred out by human selection, the seedless ones were more popular, therefore the bananas you now buy are grown by taking cuttings from existing plants that do not have the ability to self seed. It is the same for seedless grapes...just think about it There are still many natural banana trees growing in the wild, but the vast majority of commercial bananas are human grown. Banana trees can also move themselves by stretching out their roots towards better soil and dragging them selves towards it, they do this very slowly but can move several inches a year.

So, how do monkeys in the jungle get their bananas? Have we been sneaking out there for millions of years and helping the chimpanzee?

This is only true for DOMESTICATED bananas. Wild bananas are another matter.

eh? in my part of the world , the young saplings grow like weeds near the mother tree...and you can dump the roots somewhere , anywhere where there is soil ...they would grow and reproduce many young saplings....

This is definately not true! I lived in Fiji for several years and had banana trees in my yard that I never touched. They produced new trees on their own and in my two years there I went from one tree to four and had bananas on all of them. The person that made this "fact" should have worded it so that I specified the type of banana tree...ie. the domesticated banana tree.

hey before comenting get to understand what propagate means, bananan tees dont have seeds, unless you cut one small tree coming from mother's roots and plant it somewhere else, banana itself will not do that, well i have seen banana seeds which are produce but people, not by the banana tree, banana can reproduce itself only in the same place or continent but cant sail, or fly to other continents
