A comet's tail always points away from the sun.

why?

i would imagine that this happens because comets are made up of ice and sun produce heat therefore making the tail of the comet to always point away from the sun, because it is actually melting. but who knows, Im not 100% sure.

yes thats right the heat from the sun melts the comet there fore creating the tail but the drag from the speed at which the comet is moving could make it point towards the sun but you wouldnt be able to see it

This is only the Ion tail that points away from the sun. The reason this happens is because the sun emits Solar winds, that push these ions (charged atoms and such) with the winds themselves. =) The Dust tail is the one that is spread out behind the comets path. (yes, comets have 2 tails)

Well, I have to hand it to you "Miley", your post is about as true as most of the "Facts" on this site. This one, however is more or less true. It's misleading as all hell, but in a sense, it's true(ish).

idk if someone already said this but a comet has two tails, one is the ion tail which is what faces away from the sun due to the ice and gas being burned off from heat and solar winds
