Well according to one of Ripley's Believe It or Not books, a black cat is considered bad luck in the United States but good luck in Europe. A white cat is considered bad luck in Europe and not considered anything in the U.S.

Ive also heard that is a black cat crosses your path its bad luck but if it walks away from you to towards you its good luck... I guess it doesnt count for me I have black cats.
