Japanese Facts

For an entire country, on average, Japan has the shortest people. The men average 5'5.2" and the women 5'0.2". But the shortest group of people are the so-called "pygmies," who average about 4.5 feet in height. However, they do not constitute a majority in the nations where they live. For example, the Mbuti are only 40,000 people among the Democratic Republic of Congo's population of 6 million, so the taller stature of the other citizens prevents DRC from having a short average height overall. The shortest individual person may be a 20 inch boy from Nepal.
