Carbon dioxide is a trace gas and by itself will produce little warming. Also, as CO2 increases, the incremental warming is less, as the effect is logarithmic so the more CO2, the less warming it produces.

Really sad to see people posting their skepticism on a fun fact site.

1. It's not true, or at least not a proven fact.

ahhh... lets hear it for the ignorant people!!! woooooooo!! first this question is not wrong, just hard to follow. As CO2 increases its effect increases at a decreasing rate. Its like this, going from 0-10 units might have an effect of 5 degrees increases while going from 11-20 units will increase only 3 degrees and again going from 21-30 units might only increase 1 degree. Units are is case are arbitrary. on a graph its shapped like the left side of an up-side-down smile face.

Second, carbon dioxide acting as a trace element is true. In terms of what causes green-house effect, water vapor is what causes it the most at around 80% while CO2 is somewhere around 8-10%. The problem is that when that 8-10% is increases to 11-13% like it is becoming, it will change the overall temperature accordingly. If 100% greenhouse effect caused an average world temperature of say 80 degrees, a 103% greenhouse effect will increase it to 82 degrees, 105% to 84 degrees and so forth. Now account that to a stable environment where only 5% of plants die a year due to environmental issues and natural causes. At 100% greenhouse and average temperature, perhaps therew will be 10 days a year that is considered unbearable to plants and kill off those 5%. at 105% and greenhouse and 84 degree average temperature there may be 11 days a year considered unbearable that result in 6% of plants killed off. In an environment where 5% are killed off and 5% new are grown its stable. But as we change that to 6% killed off and only 5% regrown it will continue to decrease at an increased rate that is MUCH faster than climate changed in history. Thus what the worry of global warming is.

It is a theory but as anyone who passed highschool chem would tell you, EVERYTHING in science is a theory. gravity is a theory, it is the best possible solution with the information we have available and will ALWAYS have the oportunity to be proven wrong with new data. Finally for the plants need carbon dioxide guy, read a book. Too much of anything kills you. You cna die of drinking too much water. Plants need a specific amount of CO2 and more will damage them. The same way we need oxygen but being pupped pure oxygen will kill your brain.
