a single animal cannot reproduce by itself, thus another animal had to be involved in the reproduction, thus it wasnt a descendant of the "golden hamster"

This is true, though worded wrong. The golden hamster breed in Syria were bred, and the babies were travelled to the United States. After years of breeding, they spread to other countries (before the law of animal transporting was in place). So technically all hamsters in other countries have the golden hamster as it's Ancestor.

This site has many interesting facts but it should be checked more often and maintained at a better state than it is although the golden hamster thing is quite interesting.
