The standard "QWERTY" keyboard was not designed with ease of typing in mind. This is actually not true. The only test ever conducted to compare the two and return results in favor of Dvorak was not conducted under proper testing protocols, and was overseen by the creator of Dvorak. In other words, this is just plain wrong.

Imagine someone typing a few sentences on a regular keyboard during 20 seconds.
Now this statement claims that on a dvorak keyboard, this could be done in 1 second, being "20 times faster".
Now it isn't too hard to see the statement is completely wrong.

This might just be a typo, the most recent study done shows an average of a 20 PERCENT increase, not 20 TIMES.

20% sounds about right, not 20x Dvorak is much better keyboard layout than old fashioned typewriter designed Qwerty...I used to type with Dvorak and was faster, but found using other peoples machines with Querty too hard for my small brain to adjust (i work in IT). I think we're stuck with inefficient qwerty... think about it, J has prime position for a touch typist in QWERTY but its rarely needed - oh well

I agree this fact may be a little off, but also the reason that the dvorak keyboard is faster is because it is tailored to modern language use, just as the qwert keyboard was tailored to language use at it time of creation. In other words, it wont matter in 50 years when everyone speaks slightly differently so this fact is only temporally true anyway

As I understand it, the qwerty keyboard was intentionally made to be less efficient because originally they were designed for typwriters. When you type too fast the keys stick together.
