It was the language of the court starting just after 1066. But the language of the people continued to be Anglo-Saxon (and various celtic languages) the whole time.

Yeah, so england kept the easy structure of the ppl speaking, but also the vocabulary french language brought (thinkin of it, many 2 syllables words come from french, such as discover, delicate, according, preserve, selection, offer, presented, transprent, designed... all these one fund on the back of a tea pack's back)
